What is an anagram?

An anagram rearranges every letter of a word or phrase to spell something new — no letters added, none left over. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams because both use the same six letters. A perfect anagram uses all of your tiles — exactly what this solver lists first, ahead of the shorter words you can also spell. Tap an example to solve it:

Anagram solver FAQ

What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging all the letters of another, using each letter exactly once. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams of each other.

How does the anagram solver work?

Type your letters and the solver checks them against more than 277,000 dictionary words. It lists perfect anagrams — words that use every letter — first, then every shorter word you can spell, each with its Scrabble score.

What's the difference between an anagram solver and a word unscrambler?

A word unscrambler lists every word hiding in your letters, mostly shorter ones. An anagram solver puts the true anagrams first — the words that rearrange all of your letters — then shows the rest. This tool does both, anagrams first.

Can I solve an anagram with a blank tile?

Yes. Use ? or * for any unknown letter, up to two per solve, and the engine tests every possible letter in that position.

How many letters can I use?

Up to 15 — the width of a Scrabble board. The solver finds anagrams and sub-words for any input from two letters upward.
